Travel Back in Time to Indian Rock
Adie Whitaker is a practicing California archaeologist with over 20 years’ experience reconstructing the lives of past Native Californians through archaeological studies across the state. He is the author of numerous monographs and scholarly articles on the pre-European lifeways of Native Americans in the San Francisco Bay Area, including the Huichin Ohlone tribe who lived and live in Berkeley. Adie will lead a field trip for up to 10 lucky participants to Berkeley’s Indian Rock Park. Sitting amongst the durable evidence of thousands of years of human presence in the Berkeley hills we’ll learn about 6,000 years of the people and history of San Francisco Bay, how archaeologists reconstruct the past from the durable artifacts left behind (right under our feet), and about the thriving Native Californian communities that live in the Bay Area today.
The trip will meet on Saturday, November 7 at 11:00am and will conclude with a picnic lunch (provided) at 1:00 pm.

Taste the Regional Cuisines of Mexico
Jim Maser is the longtime owner of Berkeley’s Picante – the favorite Mexican restaurant for generations of East Bay families. Picante's focus is traditional Mexican dishes and drinks prepared from scratch every day, including regional recipes from around Mexico based on Jim’s many years of travel and tasting there.
Jim is offering brunch at Picante on October 24 at 11:00am for 10 lucky participants who will have the opportunity to taste some of his favorite recipes and hear from Jim about the amazing depth and breadth of Mexican cuisine.
A seat at the table to this delicious experience is $250.
